There is something about Summer, maybe it's the slow pace from the heat or just a calmer season in general (no school, social functions are paused, people out of town) but getting lost in a book in the pool or spending evenings with my husband binging a show just sounds better in the Summer to me. It's the perfect pause for me to enjoy a page turner or drama series. It's also a great distraction from the insane heat here in Texas. However you are spending the Summer, I thought I'd share a few guilty pleasures I intend on getting lost in....some come highly recommended from friends, some are SJ staff picks, some are picks I'm so behind on starting, but nevertheless they all promise to serve up a much appreciated distraction from the dog days of Summer :)

TV:

Candy on Hulu (Because a small town in Texas murder in 1980 is hard to pass up)

The Staircase on HBO and documentary on Netflix (did he or didn't he?)

Ozark on Netflix (I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who has not watched yet)

The First Lady on Showtime (3 different First Lady's throughout time, 3 incredible actresses...)

Sheryl on Showtime (Sheryl Crow's documentary, I mean all I wanna do is have some fun)

Anatomy of a Scandal on Netflix (do we really know those we love?)

BOOKS:

The Summer Place by Jennifer Weiner (if you need Alyssa our star manager, she's curled up with this read)

Run, James, Run by James Patterson and Dolly Parton (enough said)

Things We Do in the Dark by Jennifer Hiller (a thriller to keep you up at night)

Mean Baby by Selma Blair (I've heard amazing things about this memoir...)

Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens (still one of the best books ever and about to hit the big screen)

The Lifestyle by Taylor Hahn (yeah we were swinging'...)

Tell me, are you a bookworm or binge watcher?
